POSITION: School Social Worker
LOCATION: ESP Building
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Social Work.
Hold or be eligible for certification as a School Social Worker.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities.
Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel.
Knowledge of laws which affect children such as guardianship, custody and compulsory school attendance.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide casework assessment and services to students and their families.
Assist the schools in implementing the attendance policy and support compliance of the compulsory attendance law outlined by the Dougherty County School System; prepares and files educational neglect and truancy petitions with the appropriate court agency once a student has accumulated excessive unexcused absences the social; attend all court hearings on petitions filed.
Conducts home visits to assess the social environment and to verify residency as requested by schools.
Solicit the aid of community agencies and resources to provide tangible needs to the students and their families; refer parents and students to the agencies when appropriate.
Work with parents and children in a confidential and caring manner and assists the family, school, and community in any way required to bridge gaps between family and school.
Serve on student support teams and special education committees at assigned schools in the Dougherty County School System.
Participate in professional development training aimed at current trends and best practices for provision of comprehensive school social work services.
Attend and participate in Manifestation meetings.
Provide individual and/or group consoling in response to school-wide crises.
Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents, as requested.
Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agencies.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent
SALARY RANGE: Ten Months. Salary schedule in accordance to the DCSS compensation guide.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
